The Warriors hosted Hope Academy this past Friday night in their final regular season match of the season, coming away with a big victory winning 32-0. Seniors provided the heavy lifting, with Isaiah Young and Vince Rusenas both dotting down twice, and prop Ryan Culhane getting in for his first try of the season. Seniors Jack DeRienzo and Chris Hall placed the exclamation point on the match when Jack flashed a nifty offload to a streaking Hall for a 40-meter score as time expired. Despite an excellent effort by the Warriors elder statesmen, sophomore Sean Bridges captured man of the match honors for the home team with sound decision in his career debut at scrum half. Flyhalf Eric Mullens was rewarded for his tenacious defense receiving the designation for the visiting Eagles.
During pregame, the team learned that senior center Luke Brady’s Aunt had successfully undergone a major procedure to treat the breast cancer with which she was recently diagnosed. In response, the Warriors traded in their typical white athletic tape for a pink version, and wrapped themselves in the brilliant color in support of Luke’s family and his aunt’s recovery. Feel better soon Michelle!
Naperville will take the momentum from the win into the first round of the playoffs against a familiar opponent, the Sycamore Spartans. Sycamore will host the Warriors for the second time this year, in a match that will feature two teams eager to square off after an early season draw. Game is scheduled for Sycamore Middle School, kickoff 6pm. Hope to see you there, and GO WARRIORS!!
